A few years ago I stopped making New Year’s resolutions as I found I could never reach my target (no thanks to placing extremely high expectations on myself – the whole change the world type thing). But something different happened this year.. I mean, last year.

As I was farewelling 2015 with some friends over wine at the beach we spoke about our resolutions and I realised I had been doing it all wrong. Start small, make resolutions you can achieve and that you want to achieve.

So here are some of my New Year’s Resolutions for the year of 2016:

1. make at least one person smile, everyday.

I take this largely from the saying “be kind as everyone is fighting their own battle you know nothing about.”  Not to mention that being kind doesn’t cost you anything(!) so why not make someone feel good and yourself at the same time. The whole two birds one stone sorta thing.

2. learn more

I am the type of person that loves to know things. Anything from world news, how things work, languages. I want to know it all, I believe the world, its workings, its history is such an incredible thing. So I am going to educate myself, read more learn more.

3. challenge myself

At the end of last year I began working in a completely new area of law. It has been a huge change, one that is a bit nerve racking and while starting employment in a new industry is guaranteed to be challenging in itself, I am also going challenge myself and the way in which I work, take on more responsibility.
